Dr. Curtis Acosta is a trailblazing educator and the Founder and Executive
Officer of the Acosta Educational Partnership. He has dedicated his career to
transforming education through the lens of equity and justice. Recognized as
one of the “Top 10 Latinos to Watch in US Politics” by the Huffington
Post, Dr. Acosta's work has garnered national and international attention. He has been featured in the documentaries Precious Knowledge and Dolores, and his teaching has
been highlighted by The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, CNN, PBS, The New York Times, and The
Los Angeles Times.

Dr. Acosta’s scholarship and thought leadership are equally impressive. His
writing has appeared in esteemed publications such as Voices
in Urban Education, The English Journal, Journal of Language & Literacy, and Multicultural
Perspectives, among others. He has contributed chapters to transformative books like Educational Courage: Resisting the Ambush on Public Education, Rethinking Sexism, Gender, and Sexuality, and Rethinking Ethnic Studies.

A proud Distinguished Alumnus of Willamette University, Dr. Acosta earned his Bachelor of Arts degree before pursuing a Master’s of Arts and Ph.D. in Language, Reading, and Culture at the University of Arizona. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor in Teaching, Learning, and Sociocultural Studies and as the Director of the M.Ed. in Secondary Education, Alternative Path program at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Acosta’s journey and achievements are deeply rooted in gratitude for his parents, grandparents, and seven generations of ancestors whose sacrifices and resilience made his path possible. Today, we delve into his story, his vision for equitable education, and the enduring impact of his work.
